Passionate About Metal Roofing

May 20, 2009 | Filed under: Articles, Misc

I’ve been in or around the metal roofing industry ever since high school. I’ve had a few other jobs – proofreader, copywriter, features writer, English tutor – but the thing that has always challenged me is metal roofing. I like metal roofing. It just makes a lot of sense to me. The roof is the most vulnerable spot on our home. It’s not a pretty place to be – it takes huge abuse from sun, wind, rain, snow, tree limbs – you name it. Protecting one’s home with a roof that is lasting and dependable is the smart thing to do. And, because it’s not unusual for over half of a home’s exterior to be roof, it sure helps to choose a product that is attractive as well.

Metal roofing does all of those things. That’s why I like it.

During my years in the business, I’ve been very blessed to be able to do a lot of things with metal roofing. I’ve made products, designed products, sold products, written manuals and marketing materials, and taught folks how to install them. Along the way, I have been blessed to be around not only my own company’s products but many competing products as well. And I love them all. They all have a place. Realistically, they aren’t really our competition. Our competition is short-lived, temporary roofing materials.

I’ve participated in the major trade associations, talked at conventions and meetings, and published quite a few articles on metal roofing. I like to study and understand the various products. And there’s one thing that has always been apparent to me – there is an ideal metal roof for any situation, but no metal roof is ideal for all situations.

So, when any property owner is seeking metal roofing, it is my opinion that product selection is paramount. You must choose a product that is appropriate for your roof and building. After you have selected a product, then you must select an experienced installer.
